The Top Ten Tax Blogs: 2008 Edition

The Taxosphere has a huge variety of writers, from folks who offer sound personal finance advice to those who focus on the theoretical aspects of taxes. But what the Taxosphere doesn’t have is a quick list of the best resource for learning more about taxes, and more about what bloggers have to say about taxes. Below, I present a highly subjective, far from exhaustive list of the top ten tax bloggers:
- If you’re in the mood for a sharp, academic mind applied to practical tax-related issues, Linda Beale’s A Taxing Matter should be your first stop.
- Russ Clayton’s Taxable Talk offers a healthy dose of outrage, at taxers, spenders, and tax evaders.
- If you’d like a little more outrage — with a little more focus on folks who owe more taxes, or at least could afford to pay them, click on over to James Edward Maule’s MauledAgain.
- For a focus on personal finance (with a side serving of taxes), check out The Digerati Life.
- Clever Dude is clever, indeed, and offers a healthy mix of sound personal finance advice, relevant news, and the occasional contest or giveaway.
- For a blogger with an apparently exhaustive appetite for personal finance trivia, Five Cent Nickel never seems bored and never gets boring. This blog is a great combination of useful tips, clever advice, and useful news.
- Kay Bell’s Don’t Mess With Taxes is a thorough — and thoroughly delightful — compendium of tax news, delivered with a Texas twang (or the textual equivalent). Don’t miss it.
- Conglomerate is a gathering of academic heavy-hitters from law, finance, and economics. Probably the last place you’d look for “Top Ten Tips to Lower Your Bills,” but if you’re impressed by serious intellectual firepower aimed at answering the big questions in economics and finance, Conglomerate is a must-read.
- Yahoo! Answers: Taxes is not, technically, a blog — but that’s its greatest strength. The huge number of questions and contributors make it a great resource (with the usual caveats about pranksters and incompetents). If you want a quick answer to a tax question, it’s a surprisingly good resource.
- But if you want a tax blog that’s reliable, entertaining, and comprehensive, you’ll need to pay a visit to TaxProf. There is simply no other source that’s as thorough, informative, and insightful.
Later this week, I’d like to put together a list of the top ten tax-related blog posts — so if you see someone who was neglected in this list, send me a link to something amazing they’ve written! Suggestions for the top ten posts list can be included in the comments below, or the Taxrascal email.

Hi Byrne – I think it’s worth noting that many on your list have been consistent in their blogging and are in it for the long-haul.
