Donald is correct up until his final statement. The taxes you pay have NOTHING to do with the freedoms you enjoy. THUS, the reason our forefathers labeled the act "unconstitutional". Check your facts, we are no longer on the gold standard. The gov runs on (unnecessarily) BORROWED money from the fed res. Your tax dollars do nothing more than pay the interest on that money. Politicians USED to campaign about "getting out of debt", NOW the issue has become "REDUCING our DEBT". In conclusion, the SADDEST FACT of this matter is...TOO MANY ppl have resolved themselves to the fate that the gov would just "change the law". Which is a self-imposed declaration that "WE the people" is no longer our attitude, and that we have willfully given over our right to choose to our gov. ;O(

Job bill job schmill! It would be nice to say that while Obama clearly has his work cut out he will, eventually, get to pass the bill he put forward, but that seems increasingly unlikely less than a week after his proposals were put forward. Not, as expected, because of the usual Republican bullheadedness, but by way of that other instrument of stasis: Democratic dissension. Already, calls are coming from prominent Dems for the jobs act to be cut in small digestible pieces; if it looks like cat food by the time all's done you'll know who and what to blame.

In the meanwhile, the conservatives stronghold on the agenda shows no sign of weakening. If we're lucky come next November that firm grip will have latched to their own throats but that's the optimistic view.

I say that at the very least we implement a program for a short-period of time so that we can study the financial effects of such a tax on teh actually purchase of said items. If we don't try it, how can we reasonably say that it has no merit and will not work? There is not enough research on the matter because such a tax has never before been effecitvely implemented....

Tax filing should not be scary or difficult nor expensive. I agree that a plain "English" version is the way to go, but perhaps its the numbers that put people off. There are lots of so called friendly software out there to help and always the folks at H&RB to help. As a tax payer and running an accounting, tax and bookkeeping firm I see many people who just don't file until that last moment of their extension then its big panic, but they all have different legit reasons including being scared.... forms are forms and that's why were in business here.... We are certainly better than the dentist and way less expensive !
